Prof. Giovanni Costigan

This presentation took place in February in 1990. It was the beginning of a planned series to introduce the public to Montessori Education in the Seattle Public Schools.   Our first distinguished speaker, Dr  Giovanni Costigan, was invited to open the series by describing the historical background of the life and work of Dr. Maria Montessori.

In 1990, most of the published literature  available referred to Dr. Maria as the first woman physician in Italy.  She was the first to graduate from the University of Rome as a physician and surgeon. She also was an anthropologist and developmental psychologist.
